Turbine Air Systems announces the Award of Turbine Inlet Cooling System for Batam, Indonesia

Press Release  |  Sep 13, 2005

PowerGen Asia, Singapore - 13 September 2005. Turbine Air Systems (TAS) announced today that P.T. Dalle Energi Batam has awarded TAS a contract for the manufacture, supply, delivery and commissioning of a 2,600-ton packaged turbine inlet cooling system. This integrated system will be installed at the Panaran Power Station in Batam, Indonesia. The system will provide power augmentation and efficiency improvements for P.T. Dalle Energi Batam’s two (2) Rolls Royce RB211 gas turbines. TAS will supply a TAS D-22C packaged chiller system; cooling towers and supports; four (2) filterhouse retrofit kits (including coils, drains and supports); integrated digital controls; and startup and commissioning for the system.

The compact and efficient packaged cooling plant is designed to cool the two RB211 gas turbines to an inlet temperature of 13°C. The system will dramatically improve the output and efficiency of the existing plant adding efficient and environmentally friendly gas fired output to PLN Batam’s system.

Fazil Alfitri, President Director of P.T. Medco Power Indonesia stated that “the increased output and efficiency of the gas turbine with the chillers installed will add significant capacity to the PLN Batam grid, displacing less efficient and environmentally friendly capacity. In addition, the low capital and operating costs will significantly improve the financial performance of the plant.”

PT Dalle Energi Batam is a joint venture between P.T. Medco Power Indonesia and P.T. Da lle Energi. Turbine Air Systems is the worldwide leader in providing complete gas turbine inlet cooling solutions, having delivered in excess of 140 systems comprising over 280,000 tons of packaged chilling systems. Turbine Air Systems' large range of water and air cooled packaged chilling products provide gas turbine customers with the flexibility to match performance augmentation needs to a quick and cost effective packaged solution. Turbine Air Systems is the turbine inlet cooling division of TAS, Ltd., the leading manufacturer of packaged cooling systems. TAS, Ltd. is the exclusive packager of Trane centrifugal & absorption chillers for both power and commercial cooling applications. TAS, Ltd. is also the exclusive packager of GEA FES Systems helic al screw compressors for the turbine inlet cooling market. TAS has an ongoing commitment for continual improvement of its products and services and is ISO 9001:2000 certified.
